  • Make Online Application

  • Prepare Academic Transcripts and Degrees

This will be required of you, all transcripts and degrees from a 4-year undergraduate degree or its equivalent – equivalent programs include international three-year bachelor programs or ACCA. PhD applicants must also submit their MPhil or MS degrees and transcripts.



NB: You can also apply while in your final year of undergraduate studies but on the condition that you make available your degree result by December this year.

Apparently, you must know that there is no minimum GPA to apply for Fulbright Scholarship, even though most successful Fulbright students have high performance rate in their undergraduate courses.



  • Take GRE General Test and TOFEL 

Mind you, during application submission, you may report the unofficial GRE score given on the day of the test, or your official score if you have received it.

It’s important you know that every applicant must request that ETS send an official score report directly to USEFP using the code 9388. GRE general (international) test scores are required at the time of application.



Note this: A decent score for Engineering and Sciences on the GRE is 315+ and that for other fields is 310+. GRE subject test is not required for Fulbright Scholarship application.

Furthermore, the minimum GRE score needed for Fulbright application is 138 for verbal and 136 for quantitative. But generally, accepted applicants have a GRE score in the upper percentiles. And in a case where you take the GRE test two or more times, you have the privilege of reporting your best score, and Fulbright will only look at that score.

More so, the TOEFL is NOT needed during application submissions. You will have to take the TOEFL exam must be taken as an applicant if you are called for an interview.  Know also that IELTS is not acceptable.



  • Prepare Two Essays

For the Fulbright application there are two essays involved. And each of the essays must be written in the space provided in the application form, which amounts to 800 words in count.



Over crafting your essays is not acceptable; you are only to write in a clear language so that the Fulbright panel that doesn’t know your world can understand you better. While writing essays, there must have been a mapped out salable marketing strategy for you in order to gain interest. Mind you, successful applicants’ takes weeks writing and perfecting their essays.



  • Three Recommendation letters are required

It’s necessary for applicants to have three recommendations submitted with their application before the application deadline. You are allowed to have 3 academic reference letters, or 2 academic and 1 professional or 2 professional and 1 academic.

Most importantly, having 1 academic reference letter is compulsory. Also referees are to fill the reference forms given in the application package and then sign, stamp and seal them in an envelope. Note this; immediately when you submit your online application your referees will be sent an online form via email address.

However, there’s no particular format for writing reference. USEFP does not want to be bias over your current position for the application process. All you should do is to find people who have enough knowledge of you to help out. And this could be your mentor/guardian, teacher or employer.



  • Prepare Academic Resume

Your present and most accurate resume will be added to the space provided on the application form. And this does not require any particular formula to get it done.



  • Submit Online Application

For clarity purposes, there is no fee attached for the Fulbright Scholarship application program. It’s compulsory that the applications be submitted online.



  • Interview

Once your written application for USA Fulbright Scholarship is submitted and reviewed, if you are eligible then you will receive an invite for panel interview. The decisions from the interview section are made by mid-September and interviews are conducted in October.

It should also be noted that a situation where you didn’t hear from USEFP by October, it simply means that you have not been selected.
